+Toad knew the land. He knew the paths, the dangers, the shortcuts, and which mushrooms were helpful instead of alarming. When Mario explained that he had lost his brother, Toad became serious at once.

+If Luigi had not landed here, he could have landed somewhere far worse.

+
+He jumped too early.
+

+
+He landed on his face, his back, his side, and once in a place that Toad insisted was technically a shortcut even though it looked like a bush.

+Each time, Mario stood up.
+
+Peach noticed.
+
+Many people were brave at the start. Fewer stayed brave after failing again and again.
+
+Mario stayed.
+
+As the sun lowered over the Mushroom Kingdom, Peach told him more about herself. She had not always known where she came from. Long ago, when she was a baby, she arrived in the Mushroom Kingdom through a strange path. The Toads found her, cared for her, and raised her as one of their own. When she grew older, they trusted her to lead.

+Mario listened closely.
+
+He knew what it felt like to want to prove where you belonged.

+The next morning, Peach, Mario, and Toad set out for the Jungle Kingdom. They needed the Kongs. Bowser’s army was too large for the Mushroom Kingdom to face alone.

+Cranky Kong listened, then made his decision. He would help if Mario could defeat his son, Donkey Kong, in combat.

+Mario looked across the arena.
+
+Donkey Kong was huge, strong, and smiling like this was going to be the funniest part of his day.

+Toad winced.
+
+Peach stood calmly.
+
+Mario stepped forward because Luigi needed him.

+The crowd roared.

+## Chapter 3 Summary

Cranky Kong agrees to help, and the heroes race toward the Mushroom Kingdom with the Kong army on Rainbow Road. Bowser’s army ambushes them, the blue-shelled Koopa General destroys part of the road, the Kongs are captured, and Mario and Donkey Kong fall into the ocean.

+She ordered the citizens to evacuate. Toads hurried through the streets, carrying children, supplies, and as many important mushrooms as they could manage. Peach stayed calm because everyone else needed her to be calm.

+Bowser stood before Peach with all his power behind him. He wanted her to agree to marry him. If she refused, he would use his power to hurt the kingdom and the people she loved.

+Fox flew with amazing skill, but Bowser Jr. had a new weapon.

+
+It did not fire ordinary blasts. It fired strange magic that crackled blue and white. When the beam hit Mario and Luigi, the whole ship filled with light.

+Bowser Jr.’s ship passed overhead, leaving them stranded.

+Bowser was aboard that ship too. He had been taken by his son after years apart. At first, Bowser looked proud to be wanted again. But as he watched Bowser Jr. attack the brothers and leave them helpless, something uncomfortable twisted inside him.

+Bowser did not like Mario.
+
+He did not like Luigi.
+
+He did not like losing.
+
+But even he knew that tricking and abandoning babies was not the glorious victory he would have chosen.

+For a moment, Bowser seemed sorry.

+Down in Fossil Falls, Yoshi became the hero.

+He found the Super Scope after it fell during the attack. He carried Baby Mario and Baby Luigi through tall grass and over slippery stones. He dodged chomping plants, leaped across broken bones, and hid when a Tyrannosaurus stomped near the cliffs.

+The dinosaur was huge.

+He led the Tyrannosaurus away from the babies, doubled back, and used the Super Scope’s magic to change Mario and Luigi back to their normal ages.

+At the center bridge, Bowser appeared.

+He was bigger than ever, with fire in his throat and pride in his eyes. Bowser Jr. stood behind him, eager to prove that their family could win together.

+Mario stepped forward.

+The cannon begins draining the last of Rosalina’s power. Peach reaches Rosalina, and the two sisters combine their cosmic power. Bowser Jr. has the chance to fire the cannon, but after seeing the harm he has caused and remembering that Mario saved him, he steps away from the switch. The cannon overloads and is destroyed. Peach and Rosalina use their shared power to heal Rosalina and begin transforming Planet Bowser from a dangerous fortress into a new living world.

+When the battle ended, silence came slowly.
+
+First the cannon stopped roaring.
+
+Then the machines stopped clanking.
+
+Then the lava stopped hissing.
+
+At last, the only sound was the soft singing of the Lumas as they floated down from the Comet Observatory to gather around Rosalina.

+Rosalina knelt and opened her arms.
+
+The Lumas rushed to her like sparks returning to a fire. They spun around her, crying and laughing at the same time. Rosalina held them close, her eyes bright with tears.

+For most of her life, Peach had believed her family story began in the Mushroom Kingdom. Now she knew it began in the stars too.

+Peach and Rosalina worked together to restore the castle. When their hands glowed with starlight, cracks sealed, flowers bloomed, and broken towers stood tall again.

+The Mushroom Kingdom had never seen anything like it.

+At last, the castle was whole.
+
+That night, the heroes gathered under a clear sky. The Lumas floated above the courtyard like tiny lanterns. Rosalina looked up at the stars, then down at Peach.

+

+She folded her arms and smiled like she had been waiting for exactly this kind of trouble.

+Ukiki froze.
+
+The stars twinkled overhead.
+
+And the universe, bright and wide and full of stories, kept turning.

+## Chapter 8 Summary
+
+After the cannon is destroyed, Rosalina reunites with the Lumas and Peach accepts the truth that Rosalina is her sister. Fox McCloud takes Bowser and Bowser Jr. to prison and returns to his own universe. The heroes go home and rebuild Peach’s castle with help from the Lumas, Toads, bees, Yoshi, Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Rosalina. Peach and Rosalina remain connected as sisters even though they belong to different homes. The story ends peacefully, with a small tease in Gateway Galaxy as Princess Daisy stops Ukiki from stealing again.
